In the late 40s , two young physicist Alexander Prokhorov and Nikolai Basov began to research on new scientific direction - radiospectroscopy and soon confirmed the possibility of creating lasers, for which they received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1964.
First lasers immediately interested in the military, and by the mid 80s the USSR possessed several types of military laser systems , both defensive and offensive.
Soon most of the scientific and technical developments in the direction of the laser have been discontinued due to lack of funding.
But until now, the domestic laser technology, created in the 60‘s, 70’s and 80’s years, is the most advanced in the world.

The first development in this area appeared in the USSR in the late 40s, and in the 60s in different ends of the earth to successfully perform combat missions legendary Russian air defense system: C-75, C-125 and C-200. In the 70s there was a system that ensures the safety of the sky over half of the world - the C-300 is used by the dozens of countries and provides protection against the most formidable weapons - cruise missiles.
In the early 21st century, the Russian army had adopted a new air defense system "Triumph", which is not afraid of the most progressive kinds of weapon.
All these missiles were created by Leningrad design bureau of special engineering.
Today this design bureau solves new problems, creating a universal launcher, capable of carrying missiles of all classes.
