"Banner of Victory over the Reichstag."

For 55 years the Victory Banner is the most precious relic of our history.

The prime ministers and general secretaries bowed before him.

By presidential decree, it was elevated to the rank of national shrine.

In all there were about forty different in shape and size of red flags that fluttered above the building of the German parliament.

But only one of them had the honor of becoming the Banner of Victory, a symbol of the triumph of the Red Army in the war against the German invaders, and the Mikhail Egorov and Meliton Kantaria who set him up became national heroes.

Someone will say: "Is not it a lot for two? .." We copied our history dozens of times, but today we just want to remember all the unjustly forgotten Victory Bearers, the soldiers to whose feet Berlin fell.

Military historian Boris Nevzorov tells how, on April 7, 1945, General Vasily Kuznetsov together with members of the military council decided to prepare banners and hand them to each division.

Officially established banners were nine and then no one could foresee which of them would be the first.

Together with the participants in the storming of the Reichstag, the presenter and the guests of the program are trying to figure out why the banner No. 5 became the first and why so little is known About the commander of the assault group Aleksey Bereste, why the names of Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev and Grigory Bulatov, who hoisted their banner on the facade Reichstag on April 30, as well as the names of fighters from the battalions of captains Kolchanov, Neustroev, Davydov and all the other soldiers who broke through to the Reichstag and installed their flags on it.

Veterans Vasily Ustyugov, Alexander Bessarab, Mikhail Minin, a friend of GP Bulatov Viktor Shuklin take part in the program.

The cadres of the military chronicle (storming and capture of the Reichstag, the installation of banners, the last shooting of Adolf Hitler), a fragment of the issue of Sovkinozhurnal from March 1933 on the fire in the Reichstag on the day of the Weimar Constitution, a fragment of an interview with Meliton Kantaria about how they and Nikolai Yegorov received an order to install the Victory Banner on the roof of the Reichstag.
