The accident in the Leningrad Metro, 1974.

At the end of 1973, First Secretary of the Leningrad Regional Committee of the CPSU, Grigory Vasilievich Romanov, speaking before students of the Polytechnic Institute, that in early 1975 a new section of the Kirov-Vyborg line of the Leningrad subway will enter service, which will link the Polytechnic Institute and the largest district of Leningrad to the city center.

The statement was greeted with a storm of applause from the audience, which did not know that it was in this paragraph of the report that a fatal error crept in.

According to the approved plan, this site was supposed to be delivered a year later, by early 1976.

The consequences of this unintentional mistake almost turned out to be tragic.
