On October 4, 2001, news agencies around the world reported shocking news - a TU-154 passenger airliner flying from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk fell into the Black Sea two hundred kilometers from the coast of Crimea.

The first versions: engine failure, pilot error.

There are also suggestions - a terrorist attack.

Incidentally, it turns out that at the same time, Ukrainian air defense exercises were taking place in this area.

On the same day, a state commission headed by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, V. Rushailo, urgently flies to Sochi.

At first, timidly, then with increasing confidence, suggestions are made that the passenger plane ... was shot down by a Ukrainian SS-300 missile.

Official Kyiv categorically denies this version.

However, the commission comes to the conclusion: the plane was shot down.

A few days later, Ukrainian President L. Kuchma officially admits the guilt of the Ukrainian air defense in the plane crash and offers his apologies and condolences to the relatives of the victims.
