Her father, oncologist Lewinsky Bernard Solomon, was born to German Jews who fled Germany in the 1920s to El Salvador.
Monica's mother, Marsha Kay Wilensky, was the daughter of a Lithuanian Jew, Samuel Wilensky, and his wife, Bronia Poleshchuk, who was born in Tianjin to Russian Jews.
In 1995, Monica graduated from Lewis and Clark College, where she studied psychology.
