The Baikonur Cosmodrome is the first step of mankind into space.

February 12, 1955 is the cosmodrome's birthday.

On October 4, 1957, the first artificial Earth satellite was launched.

On August 19, 1960, the dogs Belka and Strelka went on their first orbital flight.

Cosmonautics Day on April 12, 1961 is forever inscribed in history by Yuri Gagarin.

On June 16, 1963, the first woman flew into space - Valentina Tereshkova.

On November 15, 1988, the first and only flight of the unique Buran spacecraft took place.

To date, Baikonur remains the largest space center, including 9 launch complexes, 15 launchers, several museums and the largest control center in the world by area.
