On the eve of the 1956 elections, Dwight Eisenhower, who was re-elected for a second term, announced that the United States of America would launch an artificial Earth satellite in the near future.

The time factor did not play a big role at that time, because Americans had the idea that there were no such brilliant scientists and engineers in the USSR, as well as a large backlog in rocket science, which gave guarantees that Americans would be the first in this area.

After the launch of the Soviet first artificial Earth satellite on October 4, 1957, Americans for the first time started talking about the fact that Soviet engineering was ahead of the United States, although at that time it was difficult to judge what exactly they were lagging behind, because all programs were conducted in the strictest secrecy.

After the first satellite, Sergei Pavlovich Korolev said that in 5 years a man would fly into space.

And he was not mistaken.

The film stars Yuri Silaev, Vladimir Vasiliev, Sergei Khrushchev, Natalia Koroleva, Yuri Silaev's children - Larisa Shatilova and Yuri Silaev Jr.
