The program is dedicated to the director and actress Galina Volchek.

Galina Volchek was born on December 19, 1933 in Moscow to the family of film director and cameraman, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Boris Izrailevich Volchek and screenwriter Vera Isaakovna Maimina.

In 1955, Volchek graduated from the Nemirovich-Danchenko School-Studio at the Gorky Moscow Art Academic Theater (MKhAT) of the USSR. At the school-studio, she met the young actor Evgeny Evstigneev.

After graduating from the school-studio in 1957, Volchek and Evstigneev got married.

A year later, together with Oleg Efremov and other graduates of the School, she took part in the creation of a theater studio, which laid the foundation for the Moscow Sovremennik Theater.

In her first years at the theatre, she played in the plays "Forever Alive" and "In Search of Joy" based on the works of Viktor Rozov, "Five Evenings" based on the play by Alexander Volodin, etc.

In 1962, Volchek made her debut as a theatre director.

She staged the play "Two on the Seesaw" based on the play by American playwright William Gibson.

This was followed by the plays "On the Wedding Day" based on the work of Viktor Rozov, "An Ordinary Story" based on the novel by Ivan Goncharov, "At the Bottom" based on the play by Maxim Gorky, "The Princess and the Woodcutter", etc.

After her divorce from Evstigneev Evgeny, she married Abelev Mark.

In 1972, two years after Efremov left Sovremennik, Volchek was chosen by the troupe as artistic director of this theatre.

She holds the post to this day.

In 1978, Galina Volchek was the first Soviet director to be invited to the United States (Alley Theatre, Houston, Texas) to stage Mikhail Roshchin's play Echelon.

After that, she staged productions in theaters in Hungary, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Finland and other countries, and also taught theater abroad.

During her years at Sovremennik, Volchek staged more than 30 performances.

In parallel with her work at the theater, Volchek acted in films.

She played roles in the films: Don Quixote, Beware of the Car, King Lear, Autumn Marathon, Unicum, etc.

In 1995, Volchek became a deputy of the State Duma of the 2nd convocation.

In the State Duma, she joined the Our Home — Russia faction and the Culture Committee.
