Resignation of Marshal Zhukov, 1957. Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov is an outstanding military leader of the 20th century, a living symbol of our Victory.
His glory was so great that it seemed that nothing and no one could topple him from this pedestal of national love and respect.
But in 1957, at the October Plenum of the CPSU Central Committee, the Marshal was accused of underestimating party-political work in the army, of a pro-Western approach to the development of the armed forces, and by personal order of Khrushchev, Marshal Zhukov was removed from the Central Committee and relieved of his ministerial duties.
Since the late 1950s, historians have stopped mentioning the name of the disgraced Marshal, the press was silent about him.
The country's leadership did everything to consign the name of the great commander to oblivion.
The guests of the program are the head of the Marshal's personal security, Sergei Markov, the Marshal's daughter, Ella Zhukova, and military historian Georgy Kumanev.
The following footage was used in preparing the episode: Zhukov's funeral on June 21, 1974; the plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU on October 29, 1957; Eisenhower, Khrushchev, and Zhukov at the negotiations in Geneva in July 1955.
