The ideas of space stations excited the imagination of science fiction writers back in the 19th century.

It all started with fantasies about cities in orbit, drawings and homemade models, but the first scientific justification of a spacecraft with a crew was put forward by Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky, a scientist who was ahead of his time and whose ideas are still used in modern rocket engineering.
