In the late 40s , two young physicist Alexander Prokhorov and Nikolai Basov began to research on new scientific direction - radiospectroscopy and soon confirmed the possibility of creating lasers, for which they received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1964.
First lasers immediately interested in the military, and by the mid 80s the USSR possessed several types of military laser systems , both defensive and offensive.
Soon most of the scientific and technical developments in the direction of the laser have been discontinued due to lack of funding.
But until now, the domestic laser technology, created in the 60‘s, 70’s and 80’s years, is the most advanced in the world.
