The film introduces interested parties to new developments by Soviet scientists in the field of drilling engines. The design of the new screw engine and its efficiency are explained.

Reel №1

Winter forest.

A drilling rig in the forest.

Scientists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Drilling Equipment discuss a new engine for drilling operations.

Panoramic shot of the design bureau.

Workers at the drilling rig perform drilling operations.

A roller bit is being installed.

The engine section of a screw engine is demonstrated.

A cartoon explaining the design of a screw engine.

The engine section of a screw engine is a high-torque hydraulic machine consisting of a stator and a rotor.

A cartoon explaining the design and operation of the stator and rotor.

A cartoon explaining the design and operation of the spindle with a bit.

A worker lowers the engine into the well.

Before lowering the engine to the bottom of the well, it is necessary to make sure that there are no dents, cracks or other damage on it.

Check the amount of longitudinal play of the engine shaft.

Then, turning on the pumping unit, start the engine above the rotor and check the tightness of all its connections, smoothness of start and operation.

The drilling tool layout for drilling with screw motors is the same as for turbine drilling, but is supplemented at the bottom with an overflow valve.

Cartoon explaining the design of the overflow valve.

The overflow valve is used to fill the drill pipes with flushing fluid when lowering them into the well.

Cartoon explaining the need for flushing when approaching the bottomhole.

To protect the engine from clogging, a filter is installed in the upper part of the drill string.

One of the features of the screw motor is the dependence of the pressure in the well flushing system on the axial load.

This allows the driller to accurately control the drilling process.

The ability to create loads of up to 26 tons in the bit allows for efficient drilling of wells in hard and very hard rocks.

A decrease in the drilling speed in medium-hard rocks due to lower engine speeds is compensated by an increase in the penetration per bit compared to turbodrills by 2-3 times.

Based on this engine, the All-Russian Research Institute of Drilling Motors created 4 more standard sizes of screw downhole motors.

Having all the advantages of turbine drilling, screw downhole motors have operating parameters corresponding to the operating modes of modern roller bits.
