The film shows the complexity and drama of life of the indigenous peoples of Siberia - Khanty, Mansi, Nenets - in contact with the world of "white people". Violence, unwillingness to take into account the peculiarities of centuries-old culture, way of life, peculiarities of psychology distinguished Soviet officials when communicating with small peoples of the Far North.
