The Vzglyad program presents a documentary film dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.

With the help of residents of the exclusion zone and employees of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the Vzglyad program reconstructs the chronicle of individual events of April 1986 and gets to know the lives of people who could not or did not want to leave their cities and villages, or returned and continue to live where until recently it seemed impossible.

Is there life in the zone of increased radiation and what kind of life is it?

Despite the fact that the mortality rate exceeds the birth rate, people remain or return to the exclusion zone.

Little by little, villages are coming back to life.

The authorities turn a blind eye to the resettlement, since these people do not demand compensation and benefits, live peacefully and provide for themselves.

The director of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Sergei Parashin, is sure that the 10th anniversary of the accident is a good reason to finally say goodbye to the past and start life anew.

Former director Viktor Bryukhanov would like to forget the details of the tragedy, but admits that this is impossible.

The film featured former residents of Chernobyl and Pripyat, as well as prisoners of the women's correctional labor colony ITK UZh 1521. Filming took place in Chernobyl, Pripyat, Slavutich, Kyiv, and also in the Gomel region, in the villages of Gromyki and Novye Shepelichi.
