The armed conflict in Dagestan is escalating.

Federal troops have liberated several Dagestani villages bordering Chechnya from gangs that had penetrated there.

Some of the territories are still held by Chechen militants. V. Mikhailov reports on a meeting with Russian President Yeltsin.

He notes the high level of organization of the joint actions of the militias and federal forces.

He points out the danger of a precedent: the possible penetration of militants onto the borders of other regions of Russia, and notes their good training. V. Mikhailov talks about supporting the Dagestani militias and giving them the weapons they need to resist, that he trusts the Dagestani people, gives examples from history, and focuses on the geopolitical location of the region.
