The defeat of Soviet genetics, 1948.

Since the 1930s, biological science in the USSR has become an arena of violent passions and dramatic events.

The fates of some people were broken, and the careers of others reached unthinkable heights.

The second half of the 40s of Soviet ideology is a growing campaign to combat "sycophancy in front of the West."

In the universities of the country there is a special subject: the history of science.

At the lectures, students are explained that almost all the great discoveries in science were made by Russian scientists.

In the summer of 1948, the government publicly gives the go-ahead for the defeat of genetics.

Discoveries of genetic scientists Augustus Weismann and Thomas Morgan, as well as their followers, including prominent Soviet biologist Nikolai Vavilov, were completely rejected by the Soviet party leadership and some pseudo-scientists.

After the infamous session of VASKhNIL in August 1948, genetics was banned, and the biological science in our country was headed by academician Trofim Lysenko for many years.

As a result, our country was cut off from international science, a lot of charlatan works appeared, the succession of generations was broken, because of First of all, teaching the basics of genetics in primary school, in agricultural and medical universities.

After the rehabilitation of genetics in the early 1960s, there was no one to replace the teachers, since there were simply no scientists left in the country properly trained.

Teachers who grew up in the previous era underwent retraining, but their outlook, laid down in the previous 20-30 years, and sometimes the absence of this Scientific education made the further path extremely difficult for them and for all their students.

The guests of the program talk about the tragic fate of their relatives, who suffered as a result of the 1948 session of the VASNKhIL, about the losses suffered by Soviet science, scientists and their families, about what turned out the prohibition of genetics for the country as a whole.
