Theme of the transfer: Negotiations between Russia and Georgia on the introduction of a new visa regime.
The visa regime introduced unilaterally by Russia on December 5, 2000, is fully effective from March 1.
Russian citizens are now required to issue a visa at the consular department of the Georgian embassy in Moscow or at another consular institution, and citizens of Georgia should apply to the Russian consular offices.
All benefits, in particular, for residents of the border strip, are canceled.
The exception was made only for the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but Tbilisi raised the issue of annulling these preferential terms.
There are still some issues that need joint consideration
According to the Georgian side, the introduction of the visa regime did not benefit the relations between the two countries.
