The film tells about the past and present of the Literary Institute, the Herzen study-museum, located in the building of the Literary Institute (the former Herzen estate).

Annotation:

Part 1 - History of the house on Tverskoy Boulevard where Herzen was born. Work of the Gorky Literary Institute, located in this house. Part 2 - The Literary Institute during the war: classes. Part 3 - The post-war period of the institute's activities. The poet Vanshenkin recalls the post-war past of the institute and his fellow students.
