Trial of M. Rust in Moscow

USSR. Moscow. September 4, 1987. Citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany, amateur pilot Matthias Rust, found guilty of hooliganism, illegal entry into the USSR and violation of international flight regulations and sentenced to four years in prison, and his mother Monika Rust after the final hearing of the Criminal Cases Panel of the Supreme Court of the USSR. On May 28, 1987, Matthias Rust illegally crossed the border of the USSR in a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and landed on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow. Nikolai Malyshev/TASS
