Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone in Kyiv Oblast

Archpriest Methodius of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church from Kyiv and villagers who returned to their homes in the thirty-kilometer exclusion zone, at the air intake of the automatic radiation monitoring system after the nuclear accident at the V. I. Lenin Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. On April 26, 1986, an explosion occurred in the 4th power unit of the NPP during equipment testing during the reactor shutdown for routine preventive maintenance.
