Railroad disaster following gas pipeline explosion in Bashkiria
USSR. Ufa. Bashkir Medical Institute student Svetlana Khasanova and three-year-old Nikita, injured in a gas explosion on the Chelyabinsk-Ufa railway, in the burn center at City Clinical Hospital No. 18. The derailment of two oncoming passenger trains, No. 211 Novosibirsk-Adler and No. 212 Adler-Novosibirsk, on the Ulu-Telyak-Asha section of the Kuibyshev Railway in the Iglinsky District occurred on June 3, 1989, at 11:14 p.m. Moscow time, due to an explosion of liquefied gas following a leak in the Western Siberia-Urals-Volga Region pipeline, which ran one kilometer from the railway tracks.
