American pianist Van Cliburn, winner of the 1958 First International Tchaikovsky Competition, and General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Mikhail Gorbachev (from left to right) during a meeting following Van Cliburn's performance with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow State Philharmonic under Dmitry Georgievich Kitaenko at a charity concert in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall.
