Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone in Kyiv Oblast

Archpriest Methodius of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church from Kyiv with residents of the village of Kupovatoye who returned to their homes in the thirty-kilometer exclusion zone after the nuclear accident at the V. I. Lenin Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. On April 26, 1986, an explosion occurred at the fourth power unit of the NPP during equipment testing during the reactor shutdown for routine preventive maintenance.
