Polesie State Radiation and Ecological Reserve in Belarus
Belarus. Gomel region. The reserve was created on the territory of three districts that were subjected to the greatest radiation contamination after the nuclear accident at the fourth power unit of the V. I. Lenin Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on April 26, 1986. Scientists working on a rotational basis monitor the radiation situation, study the effect of radiation on flora and fauna, and on the accumulation and movement of radionuclides in the soil.
