Attempted coup d'etat in the USSR in 1991

Representatives of the highest Soviet leadership, led by USSR Vice President Gennady Ivanovich Yanayev, removed USSR President Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev from power and declared a state of emergency in the country.
