Monument to the Izhora Battalion in Leningrad

USSR. Leningrad. Monument to the soldiers of the Izhora Battalion, formed from workers of the Izhora Plant during the Great Patriotic War, who in late August 1941 helped units of the Leningrad Front stop the Nazi invaders four kilometers from Kolpino. The monument, designed by architect Modest Anatolyevich Shepilevsky, was unveiled on January 24, 1959, on the dam near the Izhora Plant in Kolpino. Pavel Fedotov/TASS
