Space speaks Russian (2007)

Russian is the traditional language of international communication in space, however, this was not always the case, for example, when space exploration was just beginning, it was optional for Americans to learn Russian, however, everything changed when it was decided to work for foreign cosmonauts on the Soviet orbital station.

The language barrier makes it difficult to work together, especially in emergency situations when you need to act quickly and clearly.

Perhaps this circumstance partly contributed to the fact that as a result, the astronauts invented their own special language, something between Russian and English,and call it differently: "Rusam" (Russian-American version), "Runglish" (Russian-English), "Ruston" (a combination of Russian and English for communication with Houston, where the American mission control center is located).

Today, the official language of communication on the ISS is English, and our cosmonauts are learning it, but Russian has been and remains indispensable and important for the communication of the entire crew.

The film stars cosmonauts Jeffrey Williams, Pavel Vinogradov, Alexey Leonov, Valery Korzun, Sergey Avdeev, Yuri Gidzenko, Peggy Whitson, Frank De Vinne, Leroy Chiao, Claudie Andre-Dee (Enier), Anoushe Ansari, Mikhail Tyurin, Michael Lopez-Alegria, the head of Roscosmos Anatoly Perminov, as well as teacher of the Russian language of the Gagarin Central Research Center Zinaida Nikolaevna Kolegova.

Materials of space exploration of different years were used in the preparation of the film: the launch of the first Earth satellite, the first flight of Yuri Gagarin, flights and joint work of international crews under the Soyuz - Apollo program, space launches of the early 2000s, etc.
