"Bodybuilding in the USSR."

In Soviet times, bodybuilding, powerlifting, bodybuilding were considered bourgeois sports and were not recognized in our country.

In the 60s, enthusiasts of bodybuilding, using foreign literature, began to independently develop training complexes.

In the USSR athletic gymnastics - so in our country began to call this sport - very quickly gained popularity.

In 1965 the first Moscow championship in athletic gymnastics was held.

The winner was Igor Petrukhin.

Because of the increased popularity in athletic gymnastics began to move athletes from other sports, which inevitably led to outrage sports leadership.

As a result of intrigue and behind-the-scenes struggle in the early 70's, all training halls were closed, and the head coach for bodybuilding Mark Shafran was accused of spying and almost imprisoned.

It was time for the basement "rockers".

In 1987, the efforts of Yuri Vlasov and Vladimir Dubinin created the Federation of Bodybuilding and started official competitions.

To date, our athletes - one of the strongest in the world, out of 12 gold medals for power sports 11 bring Russian athletes.

Shelestov S.V. - Master of sports of international class in bodybuilding, two-time world champion in bodybuilding. Stefanovich Yu is a master of sports in artistic gymnastics and acrobatics, twice world bodybuilding champion.
