The death of Gagarin, 1968.

March 27, 1968 Yuri Gagarin was killed in a plane crash during a training flight under the guidance of instructor Vladimir Seregin.

The remains of pilots were cremated, the farewell took place on March 30, 1968 in the Central House of the Soviet Army, on Red Square there was a mourning rally, the urns with ashes were buried in the Kremlin wall.

In the USSR, national mourning was declared.

This was the first time in the history of the Union, when the day of mourning was not connected with the death of the head of state.

To investigate the causes of the disaster, the State Commission was organized.

The results of her work were classified, only a few details were leaked into the articles and interviews of the investigators.

Studies specialists under the leadership of SM Belotserkovskogo showed that the most likely cause of the fall of the crew Gagarin and Seryogin was a sharp evasion from another aircraft with a hit on its vortex track, resulting in their aircraft entering a tailspin, from which they could not leave due to lack of time and difficult weather conditions.

Despite official conclusions of the commission, an independent investigation of the KGB was conducted in parallel, which revealed only numerous violations in the work of ground personnel of the airfield.

The true causes of the catastrophe are still either classified or unclear.

The test pilots Pavel Sukhinin and Alexander Ustenko, cosmonaut Alexei Leonov and the head of the State Commission for Investigation of the causes of the death of Yuri Gagarin and Vladimir Seregin Sergey Belotserkovsky remember the tragedy.

Personnel chronicles of different years: farewell to the dead and funeral at the Kremlin wall, Yuri Gagarin before the first space flight, popular jubilation, family shootings of Gagarin with children.
