The word "sniper" comes from the English word "snipe" (snipe).

This small wading bird has always been a difficult prey for the hunter, it flies very fast and on a completely unpredictable trajectory.

Any Englishman who could shoot a snipe with a simple flintlock rifle was considered a master marksman. "Snipe shooting" has become a kind of sport.

In the middle of the XVIII century, the long name was shortened to the short "sniping", and by the end of the XIX century, this term was firmly in use and is still used to refer to high-precision shooting.

Our report: the tournament in memory of Captain Vladimir Berlin is a closed competition by its specifics, it gathers not just the best shooters of almost all law enforcement agencies, but people who are widely known only in very narrow circles - active snipers who perform special tasks around the world.

This is the only winter sniper competition in Europe.

"If the rest is active, if the holiday is sports!" - such a saying existed at one time in the Airborne Forces.
